Mexico Kitesurfing – Wind Season

In Mexico you can go kitesurfing to so many different locations... Pacific Ocean, Sea of Cortez, Mexican Gulf Coast and Caribbean Sea. Many Mexican spots allow great kitesurfing practice thanks to good wind conditions, but make sure to go during the right time because wind conditions in various spots change throughout the year. Here's a list of best kitesurfing locations in Mexico according to seasonal wind shift:

Baja California (Wind December - March)
Vallarta - Pacific Ocean (Wind March - May)
Mexican Gulf Coast (Wind December - May)
North Yucatan Coast (Wind almost all year, even during summer, thanks to a thermal wind effect usually starting daily after 2pm)
Caribbean Sea (Wind mid-November - May)

When you take kiteboard course with TULUM OCEANPROKITE SCHOOL, you'll be taking advantage of our Mexico kitesurfing vacation expertise to kite in Tulum (located in Riviera Maya, Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula.)

In 2009, we started a new concept – MOBILE KITE SCHOOL. This program was developed specifically for either experienced riders or those students who want to implement most wind conditions, while at the same time have a chance to discover numerous kite locations in different areas of Yucatan Peninsula. This is a 100% Mexican Kiteboarding Vacation which allows you to explore during one single trip the kite spots of Progresso (Merida), Isla Holbox, Cancun, Isla Blanca, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, Tulum, Sian Ka'an Biosphere, Mahahual, Bacalar, and many more throughout Riviera Maya, North of Yucatan and Costa Maya (southern part of the Caribbean in Mexican state of Quintana Roo.)

In 2010, we become the first SAILBOAT AND CATAMARAN KITEBOARDING & DIVING SCHOOL in México, with it’s design program for those who want luxury, comfort and adventure those who already kiteboard and dive and those who want to learn kiteboarding or diving or just for families or friends that want to enjoy the cruise and the other activities we have like snorkeling, fishing, kayaking & paddle surf. The Sailboat (4 pax) or Catamaran(8 pax) will go where the wind condition or dives are the best on each of our selected destinies. Such as Isla Holbox, Cancun, Isla Blanca, Cozumel, Tulum, Sian Ka'an Biosphere, Mahahual, Banco Chinchorro, belize Cay Caulker, Ambergris Cay and Cay Chapel in winter time…

Our Sailboat Kiteboarding & diving School is already working on the Mexican Caribbean and our deluxe Catamaran school is going to start working on march 2011 in Mexico. Stay update with our Catamaran Kiteboarding school news for the spring and summer coming soon.

In addition, OceanProKite will gladly arrange a personalized kitesurfing guide tour for a half-day trip, full-day trip by land or even a mini-trip of 2 days/1 night. We'd love to guide you in Boca Paila and other spots in Sian Ka'an Biosphere for a downwind kitesurf trip, or to simply take a kiteboarding day out of Tulum to discover other new spots. Our kiteboarding mini-trips take place mostly in Isla Holbox and Isla Blanca. All the mini-kitesurfing adventure tours were created so that during your kiting cruise you can also enjoy the spectacular local scenery of white sand beaches and turquoise sea, beautiful flat water lagoon, safe reef break, the Mayan ruins of Tulum, etc. To learn more, please look through our KITETRIP SECTION.

From November to June, the windy season of Yucatan Peninsula offers great wind conditions for all kitesurfing levels. The warm waters of Mexican Caribbean Sea allow you the freedom of kiteboarding without a wetsuit. Kitesurfing in Mexico is particularly enjoyable because of uncrowded kite spots where you can feel free to play all around.*

In summer time, OceanProKite is usually on a trip somewhere else, either in Mexico or around the world. Stay updated by checking the KITETRIP SECTION or by joining our OPK newsletter to learn more about your next kiteboarding holiday, surf trip or whatever crazy idea of vacation we might offer you.

Come and join us for one of the most fun journeys of your life!

Cheers,
OPK

kitesurf mag may edition 2011
At the end of May, 2011, during a paragliding adventure with friends in the French Alps, I finally got my hands on the ‘Kiteboarding Test 2011’ issue of KITESURF MAG from France. The ‘Test’ is a special annual publication of the magazine, and it so happens that OceanProKite was an integral part of producing this latest publication in the series. Back in February we were honored to assist the magazine crew during its kiteboarding production journey all over Yucatan, Mexico. Several months passed since then, and as our good friend and instructor of past two years – Guillaume - entered the chalet with the precious trophy, a copy of the 2011 Test issue, so many memories flooded back into my mind...

Wainman Kites – Best Kite on the 2010 Market?

Wainman Hawaii Best kite 9m SMOKE RABBIT GANG

Having extensive experience with kiteboarding from the early days, starting with my first Ar3.5 Naish 2-lines kites back in 2000 and since then always playing with many different kites in different areas, OceanProKite can definitely give technical advice on the new Wainman Kites.

10 good reasons why I consider Wainman Kites to be the best:

Quality of Construction of the 5 most important items of the Kite set: kite, bar, lines, pump and backpack.
Wide wind range of use of every kind (without big difference when you push your kite to its limit of wind range.)
Powerful and quick due to its hybrid and 'C' kite mix in its shape (short bridle with pulley and great 'C' shape that make the kite turn on itself a lot quicker than usual bow or hybrid. Kite loops become something really nice to enjoy.)
Very stable in gusty wind, again thanks to the mix of hybrid and 'C' kite shape.
Very comfortable bar with quick handling on you first session.
Many options of tuning the kite to your specific way of kiting (bunch of easy and quick options to change connection on bridles and tips of the kite.) Also, to ride on short lines takes 2 seconds to set and it does really work perfectly with the kite.
Very comfortable backpack (I tested it by sitting in my car with the bag on.)
Every kite is different but tends to offer you the same feeling in every wind condition.
The style of the kite is unique with inside and outside design of the material. Mix of gothic spirit and comics – check out the pictures in the kite shop section.
Simply everything feels just right. If you use the kite once a week, 2 months, a season, you'll still be amazed by the flexibility (a true all-around kite for every style of riding) and its strong construction (we use it at the OceanProKite center, got it used and it's still in perfect shape!)
